About the Author(s)

Pat Diehl Scace - currently serves as the Floral Display Supervisor for the Missouri Botanical Garden in St. Louis, Missouri. Pat earned her bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign and attended the American Floral Art School in Chicago, Illinois. She has taught Advanced Floral Design at Southwestern Illinois College in Belleville, Illinois; presented for various organizations, including state florists’ associations, wholesale florists, and garden clubs; and received the Designer of the Year award from the Illinois State Florists’ Association. A Laureate Member of the American Institute of Floral Designers, Pat has authored and coauthored several books, including The Floral Artist’s Guide: A Reference to Cut Flowers and Foliages and The AIFD Guide to Floral Design. Pat grew up in the floral industry as part of the third generation to work as florists at Diehl Florist, Inc., a family-owned retail flower shop.

James M. DelPrince - is a Horticulture Specialist with the Mississippi State University Extension Service. Jim received his doctoral degree in Agricultural and Extension Education from Mississippi State University, and a master’s of science degree in Agricultural Education and a bachelor’s of science degree in Horticulture from The Ohio State University. A Laureate member of the American Institute of Floral Designers, Jim has authored and coauthored several books, including Interior Plantscaping: Principles and Practices, A Centennial History of the American Florist, and The AIFD Guide to Floral Design. He is also the author of multiple extension publications, trade press, and scholarly journal articles.
